Essential Oil Therapy

Today’s post is an information Q&A session with Sarah Curl, a representative of Young Living, a global essential oils organization.

It seems like everywhere you turn now, people are talking about essential oils! It’s hard to believe that essential oils were man’s first medicine, and have been around for thousands of years. Records dating back to 4500 BC describe using them for religious rituals and medical applications.

Q: Could you tell me about what oils you sell, and how they apply to health?
A: The company that I represent, Young Living, has been around for over 20 years now and offer an unmatched amount of oil singles and oil blends, backed by our Seed to Seal guarantee. What that means is that from the seed that is planted to the seal or packaging your oil comes in, you will find unprecedented purity. Essential oils are the aromatic and volatile liquids found within flowers, trees, roots, etc. that are extracted through steam distillation. They are called essential because they are necessary for the life of the plant. They consist of tiny molecules that can penetrate and permeate every cell, thus healing us at the source. They are different than the fatty oils used for cooking, which contain molecules much too large to penetrate at cellular levels. Essential Oils can not only help the body, but they can also help the mind, which makes them very unique among natural therapeutic substances. The sense of smell is the only one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, the emotional control center. That’s why certain smells can evoke memories and emotions before we are even consciously aware of it. There are so many uses for essential oils that cannot even begin to be covered!

Q: How did you get involved in oils?
A: I got involved with Young Living in February of 2013. My dear friend had been telling me about them and I had been watching her post on Facebook about how they had helped her family and I was so intrigued. As a mom of four messy boys, we were constantly swapping germs back and forth and I was craving some relief from the relentless sickness. When I first got the everyday oils kit, which is what we recommend everyone start with because they compliment a medicine cabinet, they sat in the box. I was so overwhelmed and didn’t know where to start! Then I just started playing around with them. One oil helped right away with one of our son’s emotional outbursts. Several of the oils helped with anxiety for me. I used them for colds, flus, headaches, pain associated with broken bones, allergies, and so many other uses. I am constantly learning new uses for them-I will never be able to learn everything that they do!

Q: Have the oils had an impact on your health?
A: I am certainly thankful for modern medicine in its time and place, and I am not about to say that essential oils are a cure for everything. They are one component of overall health and wellness. It is crucial to be putting healthy, nourishing foods into our bodies, as well as take care of our spiritual health through meditating, prayer, or however you relax. You need to take care of mind, body, and spirit for overall wellness. Essential oils have changed my family’s life for the better and I believe there is something to benefit everyone. I am thankful to have options when it comes to my family’s healthcare and wellness.

Q: What are some of the more popular oils, and why?
A: This time of year, lavender, lemon, and peppermint oils are especially popular because they help so much with seasonal allergies going around. They also help with headaches, relaxation, are uplifting, and so many other uses. They also come in the everyday oils kit along with 7 other oils that you will literally use every day!

Egg White + Banana + Oatmeal

Hi, lovelies!

Do you need a great breakfast to give you fuel and energy to start your day off right? Here is a great recipe just for that! I eat this on my hardest workout days, and it’s delish!

– 1 banana
– 1/2 cup organic oatmeal
– 1/2 cup milk
– 3/4 liquid egg whites
– 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Peel and mash banana, then stir banana into remaining ingredients. Microwave for 30 – 40 seconds. Top with cinnamon, and enjoy!
