Spirulina: My Superfood!

I love talking about juicing recipes and my favorite healthy concoctions. One thing I love doing is buying tons of fruits and vegetables and experimenting with my daughter. We have so much fun in the kitchen!

One superfood that I use daily is spirulina. I cannot tell you how much I love this gift of a food. Do you know how good spirulina is for you? It has five times more protein than meat and contains over 100 different nutrients including zinc, magnesium, and folate. That’s great for me, as I’ve never been a meat eater, nor will I ever be. It contains all the amino acids I need.

I’m so glad I have gotten my kids to throw some spirlina in their smoothies. It comes in three forms – flakes, powder, and tablets. I personally love the powder. I feel the tablets aren’t as effective, and I haven’t tried the flakes. You want to buy real ground spirulina powder that is stripped of filler and preservatives.

Research shows that spirulina may prevent heart and liver damage. It’s also great added into salsas, and even guacamole. This superfood is beyond super in my book. It’s been around forever, and it’s not going away. This is the superfood that will keep on giving.
