Healthy snacking for life

Happy Monday!

Eating healthy is such an important task , especially as we get older, but more importantly , the way we snack throughout the day , Is just as important, and I want to throw some healthy snacks your way as your week progresses.

Snacking can become either a routine of just snacking, or snacking because your actually hungry. The first one can get people in a lot of trouble, as they snack whenever , and not see the weight fall off, or see it pack on. If you are eating healthy everyday, congrats to you. That is hard for a lot of people, so if you are making healthy meals, or picking healthy alternatives when eating out, you deserve a pat on the back.

It’s very important to eat every two to three hours to keep your blood sugar leveled, and to stave off crazy cravings later on. You will find that if you are not eating every two to three hours, you will end up starving by the end of the day, and starving means picking not so healthy alternatives. Here are some great healthy snacks to add to your daily healthy eating. These are some of my favorites, and are very tasty.

– hummus & celery . You can even dip carrots in your hummus if your not a huge celery fan.

– apples and peanut butter. Try to buy organic peanut butter because it’s not made of all the bad oils and hydrogenated fats. My all time favorite Brand is Justin’s almond butter , and I even buy it in the small packets .

– tomato, basil and mozzarella. This is so delish , and is even great warmed in the oven for a few minutes.

-fruit bowls. Add in all your favorite berries and melons. We live on fruit .

-organic chicken, avocado, and salsa. One word is yummy!

-green juices- I can’t say enough about green juices. They offer you so many vitamins and minerals, and halts cravings, and tastes delish.

These are some great starters for good , healthy snacks. Stay away from the processed , packaged ” protein bars”. They are loaded with sugar, carbs, and high in fat.

Birthday love💜💜💜

I just got done celebrating my 41st birthday, yes I did say 41. I have to say that as the years go by, the birthdays get sweeter. I’m so thankful for the life I have, as well as all my amazing friends and family. It’s so important to cherish these moments, and be thankful for your health and the health of your family . My birthdays always seem to last over a week, which I’m not complaining. It starts off with a trip, then dinners with friends and family, then cake and dinner with your kids, then top it off with another trip. It’s always fun that way right? Why not? Enjoy your birthdays in style, and always buy yourself a great gift to top it off! I got so many wonderful gifts , that I cannot name them all.. One of my favs was my Tom Ford Fashion Book. I have so many coffee table books, simply because I’m a book worm, and love to read, but this was the icing on the cake!  Cherish yourself and your birthdays always!!!

Hangover? I got the cures!

Hi ladies!

I’m sure you all have had nights where you end up at a party or gathering, and having a great time, then wake up the next morning , realizing that ” oh wow, I feel terrible. Those mornings where you don’t want to get out of bed, you want to sleep all day, and you feel worse than you ever have. It’s the ultimate hangover. You ask yourself over and over, ” why did I drink so much, or I didn’t think I had that much, or the best line is , ” I’m never drinking again! Well yes I’m sure you will.

Even though you need to casually have your glass of wine, it doesn’t always happen that way. I have ways that will make you feel better after a fun night out.  I’m not saying after doing these things, you will be able to go run a marathon, but you will start feeling better.

water ..water…water.. Drink up!! Start hydrating , and filling that body with water. Water absorbs alcohol. It’s best to drink as much water upon waking.

–pop an asprin- who doesn’t get that horrible headache with a hangover. It doesn’t feel good right? Taking a few asprin will offset the trigger pain of that headache.

shower. Nothing makes you feel better than a warm shower. It instantly makes you feel better.. And wakes you up.

pickle juice- i know this sounds crazy, but drinking pickle juice helps calm nausea from a hangover. It may not sound all that great , but it does help.

-sleep- we all have crazy , busy lives, but if you have the time to go back to bed for just another hour , or have the luxury of sleeping and resting the rest of the day, that helps tremendously.  Especially if its on a casper mattress by casper.

We all have these days, and it’s normal, but drinking alcohol should be casually . It can do so many things to our health, if not. Drink smart!

Top foods for glowing skin

Winter is a real pain when it comes to keeping your skin glowing. The dryness in the air and lack of moisture can wreak havoc on everything from your skin, to your hair and more. There are great ways to always keep your skin glowing in this frigid air, but more importantly, what we put in our bodies helps a great deal in keeping our skin nice and supple. My top foods for keeping winter glowing skin:

*walnuts- this amazing nut is loaded with antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids. It in return, stimulates collagen in our skin, helping us maintain that glow throughout the season. Adding these nuts to salads, muffins, and even your morning oatmeal, is a great way of reaping the benefits.

*dark chocolate- I’m not saying to go out and buy a snicker bar. That’s the type of chocolate to stay away from, as it’s loaded up with sugar and preservatives. Try picking a bar up from your natural food market that has atleast 70 percent cacao . This reduces moisture , keeps skin hydrated, and improves your skins overall texture.

*cherries- cherries slows down the aging process all together, and they are full of antioxidants. Adding these to your smoothies, or even topping your oatmeal is great.

*tomatoes-tomatoes are full of lycopene, which helps in keeping acne at bay. They help lower the hormone that causes acne. It’s easy to add tomatoes to anything, from dishes to salads.

* green tea- this is a wonder drink. Been around for centuries, drinking 3-5 glasses a day lower levels of DHT. It’s loaded up with antioxidants and helps keep the skin subtle, and glowing.

Top ways to fuel that workout

One way to get the best out of your workout , is fueling correctly before and after. If you do not fuel correctly, you will find your muscles will get tired, sore and you may start feeling lethargic. You want to train your body to burn fat for fuel. That’s the key! Your body uses two types of fuel: sugar or fat. The sugar portion , known as glycogen is the sugar where carbohydrates are broken down into the digestive system. Glycogen is then stored in your muscles and liver. Fat is a far more better fuel for your body. If you eat three meals daily, you will not deplete your glycogen. Some healthy fats to consider are: coconut oil, pastured eggs, nuts, ect. You want to time your meals where the fat burning will start .

You do not want to skip breakfast. This is the most important meal that starts your metabolism up. You do not want to skip dinner either. The big component to remember is what to eat and not eat before a workout. Stay away from sugary foods and drinks , and yes this includes those horrible ” so called protein bars that have hardly any protein, but loaded with sugar. These bars are everywhere! Pick a good bar that has high protein, but yet low in sugar. Avoid: energy drinks, sports drinks, and any type of fruit juice. These are all loaded with sugar. If you think that loading up on carbs is the ideal, think again. That is commonly used by high endurance exercisers, but regular exercisers should look more towards high , healthy protein to get your fuel. Try to drink green tea, water, or even organic black coffee. A good whey protein shake is also great fuel for a workout. It’s all about clean eating also. After your workout, try drinking a good recovery drink, and eat good healthy protein for dinner , such as a good fish or health organic chicken with organic vegetables. You can pick healthy carb options . Eating clean and training mean is the key !
