With summer on the way, now is the time of year you’d be stepping up your workout gym efforts, making more trips to the gym and doing anything you can to get ‘summer ready’. But as we know, this year things are a little different. In a bid to keep everyone healthy, it’s time to ‘stay at home’ and try social distancing for a while.
If you’re worried about the impact this will have on your fitness, then don’t be. There are still a lot of ways you can workout on lockdown and get yourself ready for summer. Here are five ideas to get you started.

1. Do a HIIT in your living room
A HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workout is a great solution for working out quickly and effectively. As long as you’re willing to work hard for 20-40 minutes, you’ll get a great result. You can find some amazing online HIIT workouts on YouTube and other sources to help you get into shape in no time at all. Start with a beginner’s workout and build your way up to something more advanced.
2. Enjoy garden yoga
Being in shape doesn’t just involve strength and fitness – flexibility is important too. Some garden yoga could help you enjoy a good stretch, while also building some strength and flexibility. Yoga is also a fantastic stress reliever, so if you’re feeling anxious at the moment and need some time to re-balance, this could be exactly what you need.
3. Turn your home into a gym
If you’ve got the space at home, why not build your own gym? You can go far with a mat and some weights, helping you to get the effect of a gym workout at home. You could also invest in some cardio equipment to help you get fit, check out the best treadmills 2020 list to see what’s available. When lockdown is over, you might not even need to set foot in a real gym again!
4. Go for a walk outside
While we’re being advised to stay at home right now, some outdoor exercise is still allowed. A short walk can be ideal for getting some fresh air as well as enjoying a bit of cardio. Being outside can help regulate your body clock, so if you’ve been sleeping poorly since staying home, you might feel the benefit if you head out for a stroll.
5. Put your bodyweight to good use
Bodyweight exercises are an effective way to burn fat, get fit and build muscle using nothing more than your own body. You can use bodyweight exercises to tone your whole body, helping you get summer-ready in no time.
Finding ways to workout during lockdown will help keep you healthy, as well as boost your mental health. You might even find that you learn to enjoy fitness at this time because it gives you a break and gives you something to focus on. Experiment with different ways of working out during lockdown and enjoy making fitness a fun part of your day.
