Olive oil has been around for centuries. It is known to reduce the risk of heart related ailments, as well as keep your cholesterol In check.  In the health news it seems, coconut oil is getting raved left and right for it’s health benefits also. Coconut oil is also in the beauty news as one of the best oils to use for makeup remover, shaving balm, and so much more. I recently found a great article by the Cleveland clinics in Health researching the differences in the oils, and what oil is actually BEST for your heart health.

Mono fat and polyunsaturated fat

These oils both have mono fats and poly fats in them . The olive oil has an estimated 78 % mono fat, where the coconut oil has 6%. Monounsaturated fats are best described as being liquid at room temperature, but turning solid when its chilled or cold. They are the fat that may help lower your blood pressure, and raise the HDL (good) cholesterol and lower the LDL ( bad) cholesterol. When it comes to oils and their polyunsaturated fats, olive oil has 8%, where coconut oil has 2%. Polyunsaturated is best described as an oil that is thought to lower the LDL bad cholesterol. When you look at the numbers and percentages, the olive oil comes out as the winner.

Saturated Fats

Saturated fats are the fats that you truly want to stay away from. I call this fat the “heart attack” fat! It simply is the worst fat that your body can take it. It is known to raise your risk of diabetes, and raise the risk of heart related ailments such as a stroke or heart disease. These fats have hydrogenation , and are found in many of the animal products in the stores. They are solid at room temperature. The saturated fats can cause the total blood pressure to rise, and elevate your cholesterol levels.

Olive oil wins in this case due to the high percentages in monounsaturated fats, and polyunsaturated fats which our heart needs. The coconut oil is high in saturated fat, but its not yet determined whether the saturated fat is less harmful than the ones found in vegetable and corn oils. Olive oil is used in the Mediterranean diet, which is known to reduce overall heart problems,  as well as reduce diabetes.  It is used in salad dressings, stir frys, baking, and oven cooking. Coconut oil is used a lot in sautéing foods, and used when making sauces. In this case, I would stick to the heart healthy olive oil when cooking, and leave the coconut oil for use in the bathroom. food-vinegar-eat-fruit-52999

Hi ladies!

I’m sure you all have had nights where you end up at a party or gathering, and having a great time, then wake up the next morning , realizing that ” oh wow, I feel terrible. Those mornings where you don’t want to get out of bed, you want to sleep all day, and you feel worse than you ever have. It’s the ultimate hangover. You ask yourself over and over, ” why did I drink so much, or I didn’t think I had that much, or the best line is , ” I’m never drinking again! Well yes I’m sure you will.

Even though you need to casually have your glass of wine, it doesn’t always happen that way. I have ways that will make you feel better after a fun night out.  I’m not saying after doing these things, you will be able to go run a marathon, but you will start feeling better.

water ..water…water.. Drink up!! Start hydrating , and filling that body with water. Water absorbs alcohol. It’s best to drink as much water upon waking.

–pop an asprin- who doesn’t get that horrible headache with a hangover. It doesn’t feel good right? Taking a few asprin will offset the trigger pain of that headache.

shower. Nothing makes you feel better than a warm shower. It instantly makes you feel better.. And wakes you up.

pickle juice- i know this sounds crazy, but drinking pickle juice helps calm nausea from a hangover. It may not sound all that great , but it does help.

-sleep- we all have crazy , busy lives, but if you have the time to go back to bed for just another hour , or have the luxury of sleeping and resting the rest of the day, that helps tremendously.  Especially if its on a casper mattress by casper.

We all have these days, and it’s normal, but drinking alcohol should be casually . It can do so many things to our health, if not. Drink smart!

Hi ladies!

Add spirulina to your daily juice

Add spirulina to your daily juice

I wanted to do a few posts this week on superfoods, and power greens because this is the time of season when we need to stay well through the cold months, and stay at the top of our game physically, and mentally. The weather months can drain you in so many ways, especially when it comes to your health, so I wanted to do some posts on what superfoods were, and why we should incorporate them into our daily diet. One of the superfoods that is one of my ultimate favorite is Spirulina. This super power green has so many advantages when it comes to staying healthy.

Spirulina is loaded with so many nutrients, and grows in both salt and fresh water. This green can be taken in either powder form or tablet form. The powder form seems to be more potent , in the aspect, of being able to mix it with a lot of different fruits and vegetables. You can even mix it with wheatgrass, and add to your daily green juice for more added benefits. The standard daily dose of spirulina is 1-3 grams daily. In this does, it contains 4 grams of protein , along with Vitamin b1 , Vitamin B2, B3, copper, omega 3, and omega 6, and iron. The quality of spirulina is on the excellent side, but you need to find a good brand , that either comes in powder form or tablet form.

Spirulina offers so many great health benefits. The anti-inflammatory properties are wonderful. This super green can fight off free radicals , and oxidative damage. It can lower your triglycerides, and lower your LDL, while raising your HDL. This green works at such a high level.

It appears to have anti-cancer properties as well. In many studies, it has shown to stop lesions of the mouth from forming and growing bigger. This is huge for anyone who runs the risk of any type of cancer.

Studies have shown that it can reduce Blood pressure. The minimum grams daily, can be mixed in a quick juice for those added benefits. High blood pressure is on the rise, and if any of you run the risk, or already have it, please look into taking the daily amount of spirulina. Always consult with your doctor first.

Spirulina can also help your muscle strength improve. This green is a super green for a reason. Adding this daily will only help you health, and keep your healthy optimally.
