Breakfast boost? Avocado on toast

We all know that eating a healthy breakfast is essential to good health. I know lots of times we can get stuck in a rut, eating the same breakfast over and over again, and getting bored, even though we may be making healthy choices.

One of my favorites for a breakfast choice is avocado on toast. Avocado is a superfood for a variety of reasons. This green superfood is known to lower your cholesterol due to the mono saturated fats found in avocado. It provides you with 30 percent of this healthy fat every day. It will also keep your bad cholesterol at bay, which in turn helps reduce strokes and heart disease, which by the way is rising in women.

Avocado also works to boost your brain. Loaded with vitamin E, and omega 3 fatty acids, these are critical to keep your brain working optimally.

This green superfood also helps with weight loss. They are rich in fiber, and monounsaturated fatty acids. It helps you to experience hunger less often, and helps your body digestive system work more properly. With less hunger, you will stave off more calories.

Avocados help your blood pressure stay in tact, and helps maintain overall good health. Avocados are loaded with potassium, which in turn plays a huge role in keeping your blood pressure down. It provides you with approximately 14 percent of what your body needs daily.

 Toss up your breakfast options weekly, and try an avocado on toast. Sprinkled with a little pepper, it’s a great breakfast option, or add an avocado to your egg whites. There are many ways to incorporate that superfood into some of your meals. Your health will thank you.

I wanted to do a few posts this week on superfoods, and power greens because this is the time of season when we need to stay well through the cold months, and stay at the top of our game physically, and mentally. The weather months can drain you in so many ways, especially when it comes to your health, so I wanted to do some posts on what superfoods were, and why we should incorporate them into our daily diet. One of the superfoods that is one of my ultimate favorite is Spirulina. This super power green has so many advantages when it comes to staying healthy.

Spirulina is loaded with so many nutrients, and grows in both salt and fresh water. This green can be taken in either powder form or tablet form. The powder form seems to be more potent , in the aspect, of being able to mix it with a lot of different fruits and vegetables. You can even mix it with wheatgrass, and add to your daily green juice for more added benefits. The standard daily dose of spirulina is 1-3 grams daily. In this does, it contains 4 grams of protein , along with Vitamin b1 , Vitamin B2, B3, copper, omega 3, and omega 6, and iron. The quality of spirulina is on the excellent side, but you need to find a good brand , that either comes in powder form or tablet form.

Spirulina offers so many great health benefits. The anti-inflammatory properties are wonderful. This super green can fight off free radicals , and oxidative damage. It can lower your triglycerides, and lower your LDL, while raising your HDL. This green works at such a high level.

It appears to have anti-cancer properties as well. In many studies, it has shown to stop lesions of the mouth from forming and growing bigger. This is huge for anyone who runs the risk of any type of cancer.

Studies have shown that it can reduce Blood pressure. The minimum grams daily, can be mixed in a quick juice for those added benefits. I hope all of you are getting up in the morning, and eating a healthy breakfast. You know you need that fuel for the day, and did you know that eating a good healthy breakfast prevents you from over eating through out the day? Research has shown that people who have shed weight over a years time, ate breakfast daily, without skipping out on the most important meal. An even better research statistic, they kept the weight off. People that have breakfast in the morning , didn’t overcompensate later throughout the day. If you decide that you aren’t going to eat breakfast, believe me when I say this, you WILL eat more through out the day, by snacking .


  • Did you know that eating a good healthy breakfast is good for your overall health? Studies have shown that eating breakfast every day decreased the risk of type 2 diabetes in women, because of the simple fact of limiting snacking later in the day.
  • Eating breakfast can really keep your energy going through out the day. If you are eating a breakfast high in fiber , and lower in the carb area, you will not get as tired as you would carbing up first thing in the morning. Try adding fruit to your oatmeal, or having some light greek yogurt with some fresh fruit. You will realize that you will feel so much energetic, once you have eaten a good breakfast.
  • Eating breakfast will allow you to consume more minerals and nutrients. You are getting more calcium and fiber.
  • You WILL burn more calories through the day. Eating smaller meals throughout the day, your metabolism is constantly burning, and in the long run, you will weight less , than compared to those that do skip out on breakfast. They best thing you can do for your health is eat your breakfast each morning, and skip the so -called breakfast foods, that aren’t real breakfast items , such as sugar filled cereals, do-nuts, ect. Those aren’t real foods. Eat wholesome breakfast items that are going to give your body all that it deserves.

Benefits of an Alkaline Diet

We all know that keeping our bodies healthy, keeps our immune system happy. Having a good balnaced PH in our blood, keeps us away from disease, and illness, and you can keep that immune system strong by following a strong Alkaline Diet. Alkaline rich foods give your body the important minerals that it needs to keep you functioning at your highest level. Balance is the most important key when trying to adjust to this type of lifestyle. The Alkaline Diet is not a fad, its a way of life, and Im the first to admit, that since I switched over 6 monthes ago, I have never felt better.

The PH in our blood is how acidic or alkaline it is, and our bodies PH needs to stay more alkaline to keep our immune system healthy and happy. That is what prevents us from getting sick or getting a virus right? it all comes down to our bodies PH. The great alkaline foods include:

This is just the name of a few. There is a whole array of alkaline forming foods out there, and it truly is important to eat atleast 60-80% alkaline, and 20-40% acid, ( if you truly need acid forming foods). I know we all are in situations where we are at a gathering , or function, and those are the foods served.

Acid Forming foods are the foods including, grains, beans, meats, dairy, fast-food, pesticide ridden foods, processed foods that have horrible ingredients added to them ( which these foods include all the middle aisles in the grocery store. Acid forming foods are constantly compromising our immune systems, which in turn makes us more suseptible to illness and disease. Its best to keep these foods to a minimum because believe me they are not doing our bodies any justice at all. 

You always want to try to keep your body at a slightly alkaline PH of 7.3.This is very important, and can be done with adding more fresh fruits and vegetables to your daily diet .

  • fat loss ( around the midsection)

SPICED PUMPKIN BANANA SMOOTHIE

That time of year is coming with bonfires, sweaters , hot chocolate, and wearing your favorite boots, but it doesn’t have to stop there. I tried the most amazing smoothie this past weekend, and its wonderful, with added pumpkin, and the best fall spices around. This is perfect for that chilly morning and super healthy.

  • 1/2 cup organic alond milk
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup ice cubes
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground flaxseed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • dash of nutmeg

THIS IS A FAVORITE OF MINE THAT I PICKED UP OUT OF pilbooks recipe book.
